Testimony-Elder Leng Mao

Leng Mao has become a pillar of Kompongsom B-P Church, serving as an elder and helping Pastor Ponlok Hor reach others for Jesus. Mao and his wife, Phos Dany, chose to follow Christ in 1993, when the United Nations came to Cambodia to oversee elections and they first heard the gospel. They came under immediate persecution from their Buddhist family members and friends. When some of their children became plagued with illness, Mao’s sister blamed his Christian faith and said she would consider him no longer part of the family if any of them died. Long-time friends abandoned them. They found comfort in Bible study and worship at a local church, and began to learn English.

Mao says he gained strength through one particular verse, Is. 43:19: “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” “Later on, I told myself that I will have a new life by worshipping the living God and trusting in Him. Moreover, I hoped one day I would have a new family living in the hand of God, even though they still did not know Him.” Eventually all five of their children became Christians, and Mao served God at Viel Thom Church.

In 2010, the family encountered a serious challenge when their third daughter Mao Lida developed an autoimmune skin disease. Surgery in Singapore would cost $20,000, an amount the family could not afford. But while staying in Singapore with a missionary, Dr Chhan, they prayed for God’s help. “Gratefully and with God’s blessing, we received from Dr. Chhan’s sister $5,000 and from the father of my son’s girlfriend $5,000.” His son, Chamnap, who had earned a scholarship to study in Singapore, also placed the need before members of his church.

Thanks to those generous donations, the family was able to afford the surgery. The operation was successful and she now goes to Singapore for check-ups twice a year. Mao is now serving with Pastor Hor as an elder of Kompongsom B-P Church. He opens the worship service, preaches occasionally and, with his wife, teaches children at the church. On March 30, 2016, he was officially ordained as an elder of the church. Elder Mao says that Is. 43:19 has come true for him and his family. “I have a new family who are in the hand of God. He has blessed my children and they all have good jobs. I am able to study the Bible nine hours a week. And we are joyful!” Pray with Mao that his family members who rejected him will soon come to know Christ themselves.

Church leadership

How do I know if the church leadership is staying faithful in doctrine, administration, and lifestyle in harmony with God’s Word?

KBPC have put in place country partners to meet with and regularly assess KBPC so that ministry leadership is held accountable (Heb. 10:24, 25), and is spiritually cared for through the shepherding of godly elders (1 Tim. 3:1-7; Heb 13:17; 1 Pet. 5:1-4). With careful elder oversight and ordained leadership, KBPC is also a member of the Evangelical Fellowship of Cambodia (EFC), one of the nation’s largest and most respected Christian oversight organizations.

Do they know it’s Christmas

Christmas calls us to love one another just like God loves us. What did He do at Christmas? He sent his Son to be with us, to share our pains, to know what it was like to be human, and ultimately to die because of his love for us, but He is alive today.

Kompongsom Church (KBPC) wants to say Thank You to everyone who has been sending donations for our church to have a Christmas celebration every year. Your donations have made real and tangible differences in the lives of Cambodian children, youth, and members.

Kompongsom Church would like to once again celebrate Christmas with our members at the main church and little children at villages, and we pray that these little children and members receive the love of God through our Christmas celebration this year. We would like to celebrate in a simple way with these children and we pray that God provides for our Christmas fund, which costs about 1,186$US. In this celebration, children, youth, and members will receive a Christmas message, simple bread with sausage, soft drink, and small gift. Your donation will be appreciated so much.

Chhouk Sitha’s Wedding

Pastor Hor Ponlok is grateful to his God, because he saw his student get married on 1st November 2017. Chhouk Sitha is one of his students that he has known about four years, and they used to work together for the benefit of the Gospel, and he helps her, encourages her, mentors her, teaches her and finally he coordinates some fund to help her to get her throat’s surgery at few months ago.

Pastor and busy time

How nice it is for a pastor from the church to visit others in their time of need. How encouraging if other members also visit during this time of crisis. There’s a caring church, and lovely place.

As a pastor, I used to go out to member’s home to do visitations, and sometime I have little time remaining for my family.  I also, need to have sufficient time to prepare sermons, counsel, and provide general leadership for the church. When I look at one passage of Scripture, visitation is a power to strengthen members when they are in need. If I am truly going to express care for others, then I must go where the people are. I must lay aside my busy schedules and excuses and make people a priority.

Why helping-projects is importance

Helping Biblical students, training effective pastors and being an active part of a community of believers are essential elements that help youngster for better future. When we lose any of these foundation elements, our community will suffer. Therefore Rev. Robert Chew, Elder. Lim Patrick and Dn. Bob Kiew have supported a few projects for the Bible students, the Bible students appreciate and are thankful. “For I was an hungry, and you gave me food: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in: Naked, and you clothed me: I was sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came unto me” (Matt. 25:35-36) .

Returning volunteers, JoAnn Sienega said on her mission trip

“A personal testimony from me is the blessing of being able to go the first time and then make the  comparison of how God has blessed the second time and used Elk Grove Bible Church as a means for the spreading of the Gospel in Cambodia (aka The Great Commission). For example, the members of Kompongsom BP Church struggled to physically get to their church due to its location away from their villages, and were renting some rooms from the local Christian college, due to the fact they didn’t have a church building of their own.

“Elk Grove Bible Church was able to step in and pay for the rent of a building so the Cambodian believers can have their church closer to them in the city and a place to assemble, grow and worship Jesus Christ any time of the day or night. To see our Cambodian brothers and sisters take ownership of the building and work very hard to fix it up was very encouraging.

“Also to know that Pastor Hor is using the building during the week to hold forms of outreach like free English classes is a huge blessing. This is a way of ministering to those who are lost coming into the church to learn English, but by God’s grace they will learn about Jesus too!  It’s a way for the Kompongsom BP Church to be known to the villagers and city for being a place of love, grace and truth. Ultimately my hope and desire is for Kompongsom BP Church to grow and make disciples of Jesus Christ, and then to send some of those disciples to other areas of Cambodia to plant churches and  start the whole process over, hence ‘The Great Commission.’ ”
